    Man Utd beat Portsmouth 3-1 on penalties to pick up the Community

    Shield



    SCOT LUCK

    Scotland international Darren Fletcher had the two best chances to

    win the game for United. First he mis-kicked from five yards out,

    then hit the bar and finally squared up to Sylvain Distin to round

    things off.


    CAN'T CATCH ME

    United winger Nani uses his pace to escape the Pompey defence.

    The Portuguese was on fire in the absence of his fellow countryman

    Ronaldo.



    LIFTING THE SHIELD

    Gary Neville shows off the first silverware of the new season,

    the FA Community Shield.

    Both sides had their brushes with the new RESPECT initiative.

    Sylvain Distin and Nemanja Vidic both saw yellow for dissent,

    while Gary Neville was booked for a crude tackle.
