His first experience performing was doing stand-up comedy with a classmate at age seven. The routine consisted of telling jokes, but scored major laughs when the two began improvising a straight man/funny man bit halfway through the show. They had no idea what they were doing, but managed to bring the house down. When he was twelve, Art choreographed and performed a dance routine to the song 'Do You Love Me' which consisted of him propelling his small frame around the stage while mixing various dance styles, alongside several friends providing funky moves in the background.
Art attended La Salle Military Academy for high school, and Boston College for his undergraduate studies. Originally a business major, he took his first structured acting class at the University of Hawaii during a summer session when he was 20.
Upon returning to Boston, he polished off his required credits with theater and performance courses, and upon graduation, moved to the island of Taiwan to pursue another goal of his: to learn Chinese and study Asian culture. He also worked and traveled extensively during this period.
Upon returning to the US and relocating to the West Coast, he continued his performance training at at the East West Players Theater and Second City.
In 2007, Art played the lead in the short film 'The State of Sunshine', portraying a young illegal immigrant struggling to survive with his sister in the Florida panhandle. The film went on to win a Student Academy Award in the Best Narrative category. He then began a bit of feature film work, with featured parts in several large scale projects, as well as larger parts in several smaller, independent projects. In 2008, he was cast as the the villain Johnny Vang in the high-octane thriller 'Crank: High Voltage' opposite Jason Statham and Amy Smart. The film had an average box office run, but went on to become one of the best selling DVD releases of 2009.
Art has recently completed the crime comedy 'Silver Case' with Italian director Christian Filippella, as well as the martial arts noir-mystery 'The Girl From The Naked Eye'. Both films screens in Cannes as part of the 2011 Official Film Market. He also appears in a video for the Danko Jones song I Think Bad Thoughts' with Elijah Wood, Jena Malone, and Ralph Macchio.
His latest project is a comedy entitled 'The FP', directed by Brandon and Jason Trost. The film was an Official Selection and received its world premier at 2011 South By Southwest. It will make its international premier at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec on July 30, 2011.
