Hey everyone,
It's been an exhausting month for me...So I apologize for not keeping in touch for so long. It's been crazy...some good, some bad...just like everyday life.
Well, I'll start with the good...not going to talk about the bad much here. Basically, some days are bad, but we get through them and there is a saying I have been living by for a while now: "There's Always Tomorrow"...and it really helps me get through the bad days.
Anyway, back to the good. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Ron Pohnel. For those who do not know who Ron Pohnel, he was a student of Chuck Norris who started his film career as a stuntman, but made a name for himself in the 1985 cult classic NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER. He played karate champion Ian Reilly, who was the brother of Kelly Reilly, the lead character's girlfriend. Ron highlighted himself in two fights, the latter which pitted him against a young Jean-Claude Van Damme in what was one of the best fights of the entire film.
Well, Ron had released a new shot-on-video film called DRIFTER TKD. Ron directed, edited, produced, co-wrote, and starred as a taekwondo instructor who learns his school was taken over by a corporation and he leaves to become a homeless drifter. He learns his former student was the new CEO of the corporation, but also learns he wants no part of the connection between martial arts and corporate business. The film co-starred former Power Ranger Blake Foster, the legendary Leo Fong in a cameo, and Mel Novak, who appeared in the 1978 American rehash of Bruce Lee's GAME OF DEATH.
The film brought a nostalgic feeling of American martial arts films and it was a delight. I reviewed the film, which is now posted on the film's official website at:
http://driftertkd.com/review.html I've been hard at work on an article for Jade Screen, which I will be finishing up within the next few days. It is a look at the Kung Fu Shapes, the forms that has fighters use animal forms on films.
Yesterday was Father's Day...this was an exhausting but fun day. It felt like it was 105 out yesterday...probably was. However, Amanda and I decided to take the kids to the zoo. We went to the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford, the same city where I work. It was a small zoo, compared to the Bronx Zoo in New York, but it was still fun. Amanda took pictures of lots of animals and the kids. The kids really enjoyed themselves at the zoo but then it was just getting too hot so we came home. Later that day, I took Jessa to Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff that we needed. By the end of the day, I was exhausted but spending Father's Day with the family...was well worth the exhaustion.
We also got the kids' birthday pictures done this weekend. A.J. got a haircut the day before the pictures were to be taken. My second cousin gave A.J. his haircut and I will be posting the birthday pictures on my profile :)
I hope everyone there at AnD is doing well!!! Sorry I've been out of touch. I hope everyone is doing well...Take care and I will return here very soon :)
