I came across this comment somewhere on the internet, after the unfortunate event of poor Xiaoyueyue happened:
People living in Hong Kong might not see it or realize it but China and most chinese people don’t care about much beyond themselves. It makes sense comming from a place that people litterally starved to death a few decades ago but sadly it shows it ugly head here again. You see it in this video and you also see it in the horrible way in which Chinese people see and treat animals. From markets to the zoo’s millions of Chinese people walk past there horrible conditions and say nothing about it. Lack of emotion or affinity towards animals has been clinically proven as a sign of personality disorders and a overall lack of compassion. Also Chinese society desperately lacks the most basic in manners...
The way that this foreign friend view China, from a Chinese point of view, is both right and wrong. China, as all other human societies, has its good side and has its evil side. The only problem of China is that evil is more common here than in other countries. But still, there are people who are against those evils, who are protesting and tring hard to change the bad and evil things.
Indeed, the Chinese people are cruel to animals, http://bbs.chinanews.com/web/tp/hd/2011/09-23/18470.shtml (残忍的中国“狗肉经济” 为了金钱肆意屠狗 ), but there are also people who are protecting animals. (http://club.china.com/data/thread/1011/2732/68/12/6_1.html志愿者拦截运狗车 僵持26小时 掏8万元买下所有狗) And in China, when you are doing all these things which you think right, you face more pressure and more difficulties than you do it in America, in Germany, in Japan, in Australia. And those people are great. And i feel China is hopeful.
