• Melbourne Cup Day

  Well, it's Melbourne Cup Day today.   All the punters and people associated with this annual event will have more than their hands full... (groping and shaking hands) / ..stomach full....(of food and alcohol) /  pocketful.... (of cash and betting tickets) / mobile full ....(of new contacts) / mouthful of .....(elation when you win and swearing when you loose)../...................

  If you're at work today  everyone, and I mean every worker in every industry, will play their own little Melbourne Cup.   Chuck in a couple of dollars for a horse (by lucky draw) and if you win, you take the lot.   Those in retail (especially electrical goods) will have all their tv tune in the whole day and by around 12.00pm or is it 12.30pm (shows how much attention I pay to this event),  everyone will stop and gawk at the screen to witness a new winner.   Some restaurants run Melbourne Cup Lunches (which run for 2 - 3 hours) so you can eat and watch the big screen.    I don't gamble by nature (the most a couple of friendly mahjong sessions with friends and family) but do actually like the event for itself.   All those magnificent horses. You get to witness some nice fashion in the field and then  watch some silly sausage embarass themselves after half a day of alcohol consumption.   Overall it's a good tradition.
