My Oppo BDP-83 finally arrived. I found this player impressive. I bought for 6000 Norwegian Kroner. That would be 973.428 in USD, according to Xe.com . I can tell it worth all the money. This player is very fast, what i mean is that it loads a disc in just 10 seconds. My old dvd player used probably 20 to 25 seconds to load a dvd. That is great.

My first Blu-ray film i saw was the first Matrix film. I saw this film on the early afternoon. That`s why i could have the loud volume. I have seen it many times before on VHS. It`s probably like 8 years since i last saw it on my big brothers VHS. And now watching it again on Blu-ray is like watching it for the first time, it`s a completly new experience. I was very impressed by the razor sharp picture quality and the dynamic and bass heavy Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track.

The picture was SO detailed and sharp with strong and great colours. In the fight scenes and the shoot-outs, they bass was very deep and clear, also they sounded real. It sounded like they were fighting and shooting right in front of me in the living room!. One scene i really liked  was when Neo was shooting with some kind of huge machinegun in a helicopter, the bass so loud and cool. I just turned up the volume more and enjoyed the much too brief scene. I always turn up the volume when action scenes shows up, then i turn it down when it`s finished.

I would like you to see a comparison between the dvd versions and the Blu-ray version at the link below. There you can see the much improved quality, compared to the standard definition dvds. It`s best if you click on the Blu-ray pictures, so you get a much bigger picture..

And, as always, don't forget that the grabs only give an indication of how these discs look. The screen-grab process itself brings its own issues with it (such as jpg compression), and give absolutely no idea of how they actually look in motion. So, they look much better when you see it on tv yourself.

Very good player with plenty of great useful functions. I couldn`t be more happier.

It`s because this was one of the best players on the market, in terms of picture quality.

+ the Norwegian company that sells it, have modded it so it`s region-free of all Blu-rays. So, i assume it did cost 1000 or 2000 kr. more for the player, but it sure was worth it.

Yes, The first Predator film with  Arnold Schwarzenegger which i saw today,  had a great DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio track. The bass was pretty good and deep when they used the minigun which is fires automatic.

Just a great overall audio track. There are a lot of other films that sound and looks great on BD.

I highly recommend you to start reading reviews at www.Blu-ray.com   . They give a score from 1.0 to 5.0 on picture and audio quality. This edition of Predator

The video quality got 3.0 there, but i don`t agree with them on that, i would have given it 4.0. I agree with them on the audio quality which got 4.0

I had no idea Bluray players were so expensive.  I'm glad you found it worth the money.  You are now viewing the movies the way the directors intended....at least in terms of all the money they pay for the CGI and special effects etc.  But as we've discussed over at Jet Li lots of times, that doesn't always make the action better.

Enjoy your new purchase.  Any other ideas which movies will be best on Bluray?  I'm trying to thing....  I just looked up a few lists.  Looks like there are good disc (I saw a list 15 under $15).
