It's easy to forget amongst all the glamour of the artists and their work here on AnD, that there are stories other than the latest celebrity gossip. Fortunately, there are a few artists that are telling these stories.
I stumbled across this TVB Pearl documentary today and was pleasantly
surprised to find out that my friend, Ben O'Rourke, was the filmmaker
behind it. (I must call and have him join AnD. We need more artists that reflect on the human condition.)
I was deeply moved by this little documentary, particularly by the story of the football team and their trip to the Homeless World Cup. I guess it really touched me because I'm a huge soccer fan, and at times, the saying that most of us are only two months away from homelessness, feels scarily true.
I wonder if they're still looking for sponsors to get to the next
Homeless World Cup in Melbourne, and if there's anything I can do to
help?
On the subject of homelessness, Dax Phelan, made a documentary called Crash Where You Land about homeless kids in New Orleans, when he was in film school. Check it out if you get the chance.
It's sad but I think all of us can do something to help peeps (compassion, don't ignore people...) it take just few minutes of our time but can lend (bring) lot of hope for those peeps.
Thanks Jason.
Homeless is a huge problem everywhere yet I feel that sometime we focus on more high profile problems and overlook this. Awhile back, watching American Idol gives back program, I realized even in US, there are kids that have no food and education just as bad as Africa....right in our backyard basically. We need more artists to raise the awareness. Thanks J. for sharing this.
This was very touching and really shows how much a bit of compassion and caring can help the homeless gain confidence to find jobs and live a more stable life. Thanks for sharing!
Jason, did you see my blog last week on the documentary I saw about the Skid Row Artists. Interesting that we both were seeing pieces about homeless people. It does remind us to feel blessed at what we have and to have more empathy for those who have had a difficult time. Jeanne
I'm just starting my day Jason so I'm not going to watch this right now. I have to choose the time I confront the sad realities or else I get too bummed out. Poor choice of words.
I am very touched by this documentary, homeless people, is not home, but out like a documentary but said "acidhead ", they relaxed or even free and happy life, such as Alex, he was very the cheerful, and he can deal with tomorrow's happy life, but it is thought, because the homeless people who need social help! human care!
