'G-rated' version of 'Lust Caution' Finally Debuts in Mainland

The Mainland Chinese friendly version of Ang Lee's racy film 'Lust, Caution' will open in Chinese theaters on Wednesday of this week, over 6 weeks behind the opening days in the US, Taiwan and Hong Kong, all of which are doing strong business despite the strict ratings given the film.  (Lust, Caution is currently the highest grossing Chinese language film of the year in Hong Kong, despite being only viewable by adults over 17 years of age).

Mainland China however has no ratings systems, and therefore the director had to cut a reported 12 minutes from the film in order to sanitize the explicit love scenes between Tony Leung and newcomer Tang Wei. 

Another consideration delaying the Mainland release was October's People's Party Congress, which prompted a black-out of foreign and non 'patriotic' films during the preceeding weeks. 

Ang Lee was accompanied by stars Tang Wei and Wang Lee Hom at the Mainland premiere last Wednesday in Shanghai.

    They only cut 12 minutes? Wow... I figured that it'd be reduced to a TV-episode ...
